In total there are now 25 members in NCT! All ranging from different places across Asia and America!
NCT127 was initially a 7 member group, however Kim Doyoung and Johnny Suh were added, later Kim Jungwoo was as well, making it a 10 member group. This lasted until 2019 when Chinese member WinWin announced his hiatus from the group, marking it as an indefinite hiatus since then. The group has reached a lot of peaks within their career! This as well comes with adoration and hatred. Fun memes that have risen thanks to NCT127 have been commenting whenever the number 127 is mentioned. Along with the the remark “you bleed neon green.” Referring to the official fandom color!
Current Members: Lee Taeyong, Johhny Suh, Kim Doyoung, Jung Jaehyun, Yuta Nakamoto, Mark Lee, Kim Jungwoo, and Lee Haechan
NCT 127’s third studio album Sticker won the group their first Daesang award from a major award show at the 31st Seoul Music Awards and Album of the Year – 4th Quarter at the 11th Gaon Chart Music Awards. This made a lot of fans angry when their favs did not take the award home, this was a surprise to everyone in NCT127 as well, since Sticker was such an experiential album and song. It was initially ridiculed throughout fandom spaces, some saying that it was not a serious song, others stating it was the worst song they had the misfortune of hearing. It has however, become a staple within the fandom, a joke song for some but a beloved song for 127zens, some stating that the flute transports them to better times.
NCT 127 Scandals:
In October 15, 2024 it was released by SM Entertainment that the past member Moon Taeil was no longer part of NCT 127 or NCT as a whole. Embarking a fandom uproar as more and more information began to rise. It wasn’t until the next day that SM released a statement stating that Moon Taeil was being investigated by the South Korean police and had been in investigation since August. However, Moon Taeil had not let the company know of said investigation, resulting in confusion among everyone. It was revealed that he was involved in a sex crime with two other non-celebrity men. Since then only speculation has been rumored around, however with the strict South Korean laws on defamation, fans are concerned that his crimes will never be fully released. It was a horrible time in KPOP as a whole, a surreal moment that showed everyone that a parasocial relationship is exactly that and one never truly knows who these people are behind the camera.
WayV debuted in 2019 with their single “Regular” and then redebuted in 2020. This was their mark as a Chinese centered KPOP group. The group consisted of 9 members initially. Past NCT 127 member WinWin found his new home inside WayV. With a sound of RnB and Hip-Hop, WayV found their niche quickly. Unfortunately, since they’re a fully Chinese group with one Thai member, they have faced xenophobia in the past.
Current Members: Qian Kun, Ten Lee, WinWin, Xiao Dejun (Xiaojun), Hendery, and Liu Yangyang.
WayV’s song “Love Talk” solidified their standing within Chinese POP and KPOP, garnering about 50 million in the initial release of it. Now standing at 91 million views. It entered WayV into the Hot 100 in Billboard and marked a new journey for WayV, departing from NCT 127’s rereleases into their own unique sound.
WayV’s Scandal:
In 2022, an anonymous woman claimed that Lucas had been gaslighting her and using her as a bank for his own amusement. After the initial commotion came about more women began releasing their own stories about Lucas and his wrong doings. Forcing them to buy him things and cheating on them simultaneously. This caused his fandom in China to all close down. This as well brought out multiple past videos where international fans nicknamed him as “dozen” meaning dozen sing, rap, or dance well. Referring to WayV’s own song “Bad Alive” where the lyric states “All these women come a dime a dozen.”
Fans are still divided on this scandal since SM did not release any information defending him, but they as well never kicked him out of the company. Which has made a minority of the fandom cling onto the hope that he never actually did anything that bad.
